AB News Desk, New Delhi, 17 November 2024: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his intent to end the ongoing war with Russia by next year, emphasizing a preference for “diplomatic means.” The statement comes as Ukraine and Russia prepare for potential shifts in U.S. policy with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
In an interview with Ukrainian media outlet Suspilne, Zelenskyy voiced confidence that the conflict would conclude “sooner” under the incoming U.S. administration.
“It is certain that the war will end sooner with the policies of the team that will now lead the White House. This is their approach, their promise to their citizens,” Zelenskyy said.
Trump’s prospective leadership has sparked speculation about its implications for the war, given his critical stance on U.S. military aid to Kyiv. Addressing these concerns, Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s resolve to seek peace within the coming year.
“Ukraine must do everything so that this war ends next year, ends through diplomatic means,” he stated.
The remarks highlight the growing interplay between global political dynamics and the future of the conflict in Eastern Europe.
