Cabinet Approves Rithala-Kundli Corridor of Delhi Metro Phase-IV Project

Major Expansion to Enhance Connectivity Between Delhi and Haryana with a 26.463 km Elevated Line

AB News, New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster urban transport connectivity, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially approved the Rithala – Narela – Nathupur (Kundli) corridor as part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project. This corridor, spanning approximately 26.463 kilometers, is set to greatly enhance the connectivity between the national capital and neighboring Haryana, completing its construction within four years from the date of this sanction.

Project Overview

The total cost of the Rithala – Kundli corridor is estimated at ₹6,230 crore, and it will be executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) under the 50:50 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) between the Government of India and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). The construction will incorporate 21 elevated stations, fostering easier access to regions such as Narela, Bawana, and parts of Rohini.

Key Features of the Corridor:

–  Length:  26.463 kilometers

–  Stations: 21 (all elevated)

–  Estimated Completion: 4 years from sanction

–  Project Cost: ₹6,230 crore

–  Connecting Areas: Narela, Bawana, Rohini, Kundli, Nathupur, Ghaziabad

Enhanced Connectivity and Economic Boost

This corridor represents an extension of the operational Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) – Rithala (Red Line) corridor. Once completed, it will also link the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda station in Ghaziabad to Nathupur in Haryana via Delhi, thereby improving accessibility throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).

The new line aims to alleviate road congestion, thereby contributing to the reduction of vehicle-related pollution and enhancing the overall environmental quality. The expanded connectivity is expected to significantly boost economic activities in the regions it serves by facilitating easier travel for residents and commuters alike.

Current Status of Delhi Metro Phase-IV Project

The Rithala – Kundli corridor will be a part of the larger Phase-IV project, which includes three priority corridors spanning a total of 65.202 km and 45 stations. Currently, over 56% of the construction for these priority corridors is complete, with expectations for completion in stages by March 2026. In addition, two more corridors, totaling 20.762 kilometers, have been approved and are in pre-tendering phases
