NHAI Strengthens Highway Patrol Services with ‘Rajmarg Saathi’

Enhancing Road Safety and Incident Management on National Highways

NHAI Introduces Advanced ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ Route Patrolling Vehicles to Enhance Highway Safety

Upgraded RPVs Feature Closed Cabinets and AI-Enabled Dashboard Cameras for Efficient Emergency Response

‘Rajmarg Saathi’ Equipped with Advanced Tools to Minimize Traffic Disruptions and Improve Road Maintenance

Arjoon. R, AB News, New Delhi: In a major initiative to bolster highway safety across India, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched advanced Route Patrolling Vehicles (RPVs) named ‘Rajmarg Saathi’. This innovative project aims to enhance incident management services, minimize traffic disruptions, and improve overall road maintenance, promising a safer travel experience for all highway users.

Key Features of ‘Rajmarg Saathi’

  1. Upgraded Design and Functionality
The new Rajmarg Saathi RPVs are equipped with modern features that optimize emergency response. The previous RPVs had open rear spaces for equipment storage, which led to delays in critical situations. The upgraded design includes closed cabinets with dedicated spaces for various tools and inventories, ensuring quick and organized access during emergencies.
  2. Integration of AI Technology
A standout feature of these RPVs is the integration of AI-enabled dashboard cameras. These advanced systems can capture and analyze video footage to identify issues such as cracks, potholes, and other road hazards. By conducting weekly inspections and integrating this data into the NHAI One application, maintenance teams can proactively address road conditions and improve safety.
  3. Enhanced Vehicle Specifications
The Rajmarg Saathi RPVs will undergo a rigorous service fitness evaluation. A vehicle will be retired after covering 300,000 km or being operational for three years to ensure that only the most reliable vehicles are on duty. This commitment to vehicle fitness underscores NHAI’s dedication to maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
  4. Visibility and Branding
To maximize visibility on the highways, the Rajmarg Saathi RPVs have been designed with eye-catching branding elements. They feature a bright color scheme and reflective jackets for patrol personnel, enhancing recognition and deterrent presence on the roads.
  5. Emphasis on Training and Manpower
Alongside the vehicle upgrades, NHAI also emphasizes the essential role of trained personnel in highway patrolling. The new guidelines include specific manpower specifications to ensure that RPVs are operated by skilled individuals committed to maintaining road safety.

Commitment to Highway Safety

The implementation of Rajmarg Saathi illustrates NHAI’s commitment to advancing road safety and ensuring an efficient incident management framework. Route patrolling operations are crucial for maintaining traffic flow, handling emergencies, and providing timely assistance to road users.

NHAI is determined to enhance the standard of road safety and deliver a seamless travel experience for drivers and passengers alike across National Highways. With the introduction of Rajmarg Saathi, stakeholders can expect a significant reduction in response times to incidents and improved road maintenance, directly contributing to safer highways throughout the country.

The ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ initiative represents a significant leap forward in highway management and safety initiatives by NHAI. By integrating advanced technology, optimized vehicle design, and a comprehensive approach to training and visibility, NHAI is setting new benchmarks for highway patrol services in India. This initiative not only aims to respond efficiently to emergencies but also seeks to enhance overall road conditions, ensuring safer journeys for everyone on the national highways.
