India’s Vision and Role in the G20

India’s tenure as the G20 president last year left an enduring legacy, with key milestones such as the induction of the African Union as a permanent member and the adoption of a leaders’ declaration despite challenges posed by global divisions over the Ukraine conflict. Speaking ahead of the summit, Modi remarked, “This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’”

Focus Areas of the Summit

The G20 Summit will focus on pressing global issues, including economic stability, climate change, sustainable development, and digital transformation. Mr. Modi is expected to highlight India’s commitment to global cooperation and sustainable growth while strengthening ties with other nations.

Nigeria and Upcoming Guyana Visit

Before arriving in Brazil, Modi concluded a “productive” visit to Nigeria, where he held bilateral discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and engaged with the Indian diaspora. Following the summit, Modi will head to Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This will mark the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over five decades, symbolizing a renewed commitment to enhancing relations with South America.

Global Engagement and Expectations

The presence of leaders such as Xi Jinping and Joe Biden underscores the significance of the G20 platform in addressing global challenges. With India’s proactive approach and Brazil’s leadership, the summit is poised to tackle critical issues with a collective resolve.

As the deliberations unfold, Mr. Modi’s engagements are expected to emphasize India’s role in fostering collaboration and driving solutions for a better future.
