Commitment to Global Sustainable Development and Responsible Business Practices
AB Desk, New Delhi, November 12, 2024: Noida International Airport (NIA) has announced its membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest voluntary initiative for corporate sustainability. By joining the UNGC, NIA strengthens its pledge to align operations with the Ten Principles of the Compact, which promote human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption measures. This membership also supports NIA’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact includes over 15,000 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories from more than 160 countries. NIA’s involvement underscores its dedication to responsible business as it moves toward ambitious sustainability goals.
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “Joining the United Nations Global Compact is a natural extension of our commitment to building a world-class airport with sustainability at its core. We are proud to be part of a global movement that calls for responsible business action, and we will continue integrating sustainable practices throughout our development.”
As a UNGC member, NIA pledges transparent reporting on progress in areas like environmental responsibility, labour relations, and anti-corruption. With a net-zero emissions goal, NIA has embedded sustainable design and operational principles in its planning, selecting eco-conscious design teams, construction partners, and concessionaires to meet these standards.
Noida International Airport (IATA code – DXN) is set to connect the greater Delhi area and Western Uttar Pradesh with destinations across India and beyond. NIA aims to blend Swiss efficiency with Indian hospitality, offering diverse commercial services and a unique passenger experience. Committed to achieving net-zero emissions, the airport’s design and operations emphasize sustainability from the ground up.
The project, managed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is a public-private partnership in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. With a 40-year concession period starting in October 2021, the airport’s first phase will feature one runway and one terminal, accommodating 12 million passengers annually, with future expansion phases planned.
