K Sanjay Murthy Appointed as Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG)

AB Desk, New Delhi (18.11.2024): K Sanjay Murthy, a senior IAS officer of the 1989 batch from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG).

The announcement followed the approval of his appointment by President Droupadi Murmu. Murthy, from the 1989 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serves as Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. He will succeed Girish Chandra Murmu, who retires on November 20, 2024. This key appointment emphasizes the government’s focus on experienced leadership for critical institutional roles.

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Murthy has held several key positions in the government, demonstrating expertise in public administration, finance, and policy formulation. As the CAG, he will oversee the auditing of government accounts and ensure accountability in public expenditure, playing a crucial role in upholding transparency and financial discipline in governance.

This appointment underscores the government’s commitment to streamlining leadership roles in critical sectors, ensuring experienced professionals helm institutions vital for the country’s economic and administrative integrity.
