Government Unveils Major Initiatives for Industrial Growth Across States and UTs

With a strategic focus on creating robust industrial ecosystems, the Government of India advocates new projects aimed at sustainable development and investment.

Arjoon R, AB News, New Delhi: The Government of India is taking significant strides to promote the establishment of new industries across various States and Union Territories (UTs). As part of its commitment to bolster industrial growth, the government has rolled out a comprehensive framework of initiatives aimed at enhancing the business landscape and making India a competitive manufacturing and investment destination globally.

An Enabling Ecosystem for Industrial Development

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), alongside other central ministries and departments, is fostering an enabling environment for industrial development through targeted policy interventions. A broad spectrum of initiatives—ranging from Make in India, Startup India, PM Gati Shakti, and the National Industrial Corridor Programme (NICDP)—paves the way for ambitious projects designed to facilitate industrial growth.

Significantly, the government has implemented the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme to encourage manufacturing, while simultaneously improving the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and reducing compliance burdens on new and existing businesses. The introduction of the National Single Window System (NSWS) and the India Industrial Land Bank are other key efforts that simplify the investment process for entrepreneurs.

National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP)

At the forefront of these initiatives is the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), which aims to develop greenfield industrial areas that can rival the best manufacturing hubs in the world. The Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) and the Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) in the state of Maharashtra are prime examples of this vision in action.

Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA):

This ambitious project encompasses an initial phase of 4,584 acres developed as part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Notably, 2,620 acres of developed land have already been allocated to 294 investors, with significant advancements in infrastructure completed. The Prime Minister officially dedicated the Shendra Industrial Area on September 7, 2019, and the Bidkin Area on September 29, 2024.

Dighi Port Industrial Area:

With government approval for the development of 6,056 acres in Raigad district, this project has an estimated cost of Rs. 5,468 crores and is projected to create approximately 1 lakh jobs while attracting investments of around Rs. 12,000 crores.

Strengthening the Leather Sector and Beyond

The Government has also focused on the Indian Footwear and Leather Development Programme (IFLDP), allocating Rs. 1,700 crore till March 31, 2026. Initiatives such as the Mega Leather Footwear and Accessories Cluster Development at Ratwad Village represent a strategic investment in the leather sector, showcasing the government’s aim to support various critical industries.

Additionally, significant support has been extended through Central Sector Schemes for the industrial development in regions like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh, further illustrating the government’s commitment to equitable industrial growth across India’s diverse landscape.

The Indian Government’s multi-faceted approach to industrial development through schemes like the NICDP demonstrates an unwavering commitment to reshape the nation’s economic landscape. By fostering a conducive environment for investment and innovation, the government is not only enhancing its manufacturing capabilities but also striving to position India as a global hub for industry, ensuring job creation and sustainable growth for years to come. As these projects unfold, they promise to transform India’s industrial sector and catalyze overall economic progress.
