AB Desk, New Delhi, November 11, 2024 – India’s Defence Space Agency has launched its first-ever space-focused military exercise, ‘Antariksha Abhyas – 2024,’ a three-day war-gaming event designed to address emerging threats to space-based assets and services. The exercise, conducted from November 11 to 13, underscores India’s commitment to safeguarding its space-based strategic objectives and integrating space capabilities into military operations.
Inaugurating the exercise, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan highlighted space’s essential role in national security, stating, “Space, once considered the final frontier is now the critical enabler of India’s defence and security apparatus. With its rich legacy of space exploration and growing military capabilities, India is well positioned to navigate the challenges posed to space based capabilities”. He emphasized the need for innovation and collaboration with agencies like DRDO, ISRO, and academia to develop advanced technologies and protect India’s interests amid a congested and competitive space environment.
‘Antariksha Abhyas’ aims to enhance participants’ understanding of space-based assets and operational dependencies. Additionally, it will assess vulnerabilities and prepare for potential disruptions in space services. The exercise involves personnel from the Defence Space Agency, the Indian Armed Forces, and specialized units under the Integrated Defence Staff, including the Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, and Strategic Forces Command. Key representatives from ISRO and DRDO will also participate, underscoring India’s collaborative approach to space security.
