High-Level Committee Approves Rs. 725.62 Crore for Fire Services Modernization in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal

Funds Support Prime Minister Modi’s Vision for a Disaster-Resilient India

AB Desk, November 11, 2024 – A High-Level Committee chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, has approved a substantial investment of Rs. 725.62 crore for the “Expansion and Modernization of Fire Services in the states.” This allocation supports critical projects aimed at enhancing fire services in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal, with approved funds of Rs. 147.76 crore, Rs. 201.10 crore, and Rs. 376.76 crore, respectively. The committee, which includes the Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister, and the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, aims to strengthen India’s emergency response framework through these targeted investments.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), under the guidance of Amit Shah, has prioritized building a disaster-resilient India in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. This includes a robust approach to managing and mitigating disasters to protect lives and property. As part of this commitment, the Central Government has earmarked Rs. 5000 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for modernizing fire services across states. Proposals from 15 states, totalling Rs. 2542.12 crore, have already been sanctioned.

This initiative is part of a broader national effort to bolster disaster preparedness. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the government has already allocated over Rs. 21,026 crore to various states this year. This funding includes Rs. 14,878.40 crore through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for 26 states, Rs. 4,637.66 crore from the NDRF to 15 states, Rs. 1,385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 11 states, and Rs. 124.93 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) for three states.

The approval of these projects marks a crucial advancement in strengthening India’s disaster management infrastructure, especially in fire safety and reaffirms the government’s commitment to building a safer, more resilient nation.
