Gangster Nandu and AAP MLA Naresh Balyan Linked in 40 Calls, Delhi Police Crime Branch Reveals

Jotirmoy Roy, AB News Desk, New Delhi: The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has uncovered evidence of 40 communications between gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu, who is currently hiding in London, and Naresh Balyan, an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) representing Uttam Nagar. This revelation comes as part of an extensive financial investigation into Nandu’s criminal empire.

According to police reports, both individuals were in contact multiple times last year, with several lengthy conversations recorded. However, when questioned by investigators, Balyan was unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding these communications.

In May of last year, Balyan had lodged a complaint with the Special Cell, alleging that Sangwan had threatened him. The complaint stated that Sangwan wanted Balyan to collect money from a person he had threatened and hand it over to his associates.

Balyan has a prior arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with significant quantities of illegal liquor having been seized from his premises during the assembly elections. When asked by police why Sangwan was allegedly soliciting money from him, Balyan failed to provide a convincing response.

The Crime Branch is currently conducting a detailed financial investigation into Nandu’s operations, which are believed to extend across international borders. Initial findings indicate Balyan’s possible involvement in a conspiracy related to Sangwan’s activities. This includes a case where Sangwan allegedly demanded ₹1 crore in extortion from businessman Gurcharan Singh, further implicating Balyan in the ongoing investigation.

DCP Sanjay Kumar Sen emphasized the importance of exposing organized crime syndicates operating from abroad, noting that their primary objective is financial gain. With audio evidence of the communications between Sangwan and Balyan now in the public domain, authorities are under pressure to uncover the full extent of their connections.

Kapil Sangwan, a fugitive originally from Najafgarh, is wanted in more than 20 cases across Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan, including charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act.

As the investigation continues, the implications of this connection could have significant repercussions for both individuals involved.
