Distinguished IAS Officer Takes On New Responsibilities While Continuing His Role in Agriculture and Farmers Welfare

AB News Desk: In a recent government reshuffle,  Devesh Chaturvedi IAS, a prominent officer of the 1989 Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been entrusted with the additional responsibilities of Secretary in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education. This marks a significant step as he continues to lead the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Chaturvedi’s illustrious journey in the Indian Administrative Service began as a Junior Scale Officer, and he quickly ascended through various key positions, starting with his early fieldwork as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Ranikhet from 1992 to 1993. This role established his strong commitment to grassroots governance.

Having served as Chief Development Officer (CDO) in both Nainital and Rae Bareli, his proven leadership and efficiency facilitated his promotion to District Magistrate in multiple districts. There, he implemented significant improvements in law enforcement and public service delivery.

His career trajectory led him to more strategic roles, including Special Secretary and Additional Director in the Urban Administration & Development Department, and as Executive Director of Health & Family Welfare.  Chaturvedi’s expertise extended to positions such as Commissioner of Azamgarh and Director of Food & Civil Supplies, where he ensured the integrity of electoral processes in his capacity as Secretary of the Elections Department.

In the tourism sector, he contributed to promoting India’s tourism potential, significantly enhancing the country’s image on an international scale. His capacities in Higher Education, Personnel, and Public Grievances have also resulted in impactful policy reforms that benefit numerous communities.

Joining the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare in 2018 as Joint Secretary, he later advanced to Additional Secretary. His profound understanding of agricultural policy makes him a critical player in shaping national strategies in this sector.

 Chaturvedi is also well-educated, holding a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, an M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering from IIT Delhi, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy from IIM Bangalore—where he was awarded a Gold Medal. He further solidified his expertise by earning a Ph.D. in Management from IIT Delhi.

With a career marked by exceptional leadership and a steadfast commitment to public service,  Devesh Chaturvedi has left an indelible mark on India’s administrative landscape, benefiting millions through progressive policies and effective governance.
