
AB News, New Delhi: The central government has appointed senior IPS officer Harinath Mishra as the new Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. He will now be responsible for overseeing the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his family. Mishra, a 1990-batch officer of the Kerala cadre, will take over from Swagat Das, who is retiring on Saturday.
The Personnel Ministry issued the official order on Friday, and the appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Harinath Mishra, currently serving as the Special Director General at the Intelligence Bureau (IB), will now manage the Prime Minister’s security, including overseeing the Special Protection Group (SPG), which provides high-level protection to the PM and his immediate family members.
Other Official Appointment Adjustments
In a separate order, the tenure of Dharmendra Sharma, Director of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IDEA), was shortened. The decision was taken at the request of the Election Commission and will take effect immediately. Sharma, a retired IAS officer from the 1988 batch, was serving in the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre.
