₹100 Crore Rafting Base Station to Be Built in Rishikesh

Modi approved ₹3,295 crores for the development of 40 tourist destinations across 23 states under a special capital investment assistance scheme

AB News, Dehradun, December 5, 2024: In a major boost to tourism infrastructure, the Indian government has approved ₹3,295 crores for the development of 40 tourist destinations across 23 states under a special capital investment assistance scheme. Among the beneficiaries is Rishikesh, located along the banks of the Ganges in Uttarakhand, which will see the establishment of a modern rafting base station at a cost of ₹100 crores.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this significant investment, stating that it reflects the Central government’s commitment to the state’s development. He emphasized Rishikesh’s status as a vital hub for rafting activities, attracting both domestic and international tourists. However, he noted that the existing infrastructure for rafting in the region has been inadequate.

Currently, the main rafting sites such as Brahmpuri, Shivpuri, Marine Drive, Kaudiyaala, and the concluding points at Neem Beach, Laxman Jhula, and Janki Jhula lack a well-organized system for booking rafting adventures. The establishment of the new base station is expected to enhance the facilities available for adventure tourism in the area.

The Chief Minister elaborated that the rafting base station project will not only improve infrastructure but also boost tourism activities in and around Rishikesh. Facilities such as dressing rooms and food services will be developed at the rafting centers, and alternative routes will be built to alleviate congestion in the Tapo Van area.

It is estimated that the project will create approximately 1,500 jobs, providing a much-needed employment boost to the local community. The project is expected to be completed within two years, marking a significant step towards promoting adventure tourism in the region.

Speaking about the positive impact of the project, Chief Minister Dhami noted, “Prime Minister Modi holds a special place in his heart for Uttarakhand. This is evident from the continuous support our state receives at every level, from the Char Dham Yatra route to the Karnprayag railway line and the ongoing development at major pilgrimage sites. Now, with the approval of this ₹100 crore project for Rishikesh, the Prime Minister has gifted the people of Uttarakhand another opportunity for growth.”

As Rishikesh prepares to strengthen its position as a premier destination for adventure tourism, the new rafting base station promises to enhance the experience for tourists while contributing to the local economy.
